Double Dragons
BBC Factual
Programmes
Researched and proposed
by Mike Sweet to the BBC in early 1997, Double Dragons was
commissioned to explore British
expatriates' reactions to the imminent handover
of Hong Kong, Britain's last major colony, to
China on June 1 1997.
Shot in Hong Kong in March '97, the 40 minute documentary followed the lives of five expats living in Hong Kong as they prepared for life under Chinese rule.
"What's
rubbed off here on the Chinese is the British
way of life, and most of all the system of justice,
but in the end its gone now when the flag comes
down
I first came to Asia as a soldier.
I've got a big stake here. All those friends
lying here. No passports. They've got the right
of abode. They always will have the right of
abode."
Jack Edwards (1918-2006)
Ex POW and Chairman of the
Royal British Legion. China and Hong Kong branch.
Directors: Mike Sweet & Dafydd James.
