After graduating
in the UK as a graphic designer, Mike
Sweet was appointed Director of Film and Television
for the Arts Council of Wales,
where he directed UK Government support for
the Welsh film industry. He
moved into broadcasting as a produce and director for the BBC
in
the mid-1990s, working on productions in the UK, Europe and China.
In 1998 Mike Sweet was appointed
as a Presentation Director for BBC Television,
and spent two years overseeing the presentation of new digital television services in Wales. In
2000, he was invited to take up a consultancy
in South Asia to establish the first independent
terrestrial and satellite TV news channel in Bangladesh. At Ekushey
Television (ETV), he was appointed Executive Producer
- News and Current Affairs, and was responsible
for co-ordinating international documentary co-productions.
Whilst
in Bangladesh, Mike created strong links with
global corporations and agencies
in the region. In regular
demand as a corporates producer,
writer, and media consultant, Mike continued his journalistic work, producing
features for the BBC World Service.
Mike Sweet moved to Australia in January 2002, where he registered his production company sweet as. Mike worked as a documentary producer for ABC Radio National and wrote for The Australian newspaper amongst other titles. In January 2008 he moved to Greece, where he writes a regular column for Australia's NEOS KOSMOS newspaper, when not working on independent documentary productions. Since July 2008 Mike has been Development Producer for the UK production company Black Lion Films.
